Mandatory detention is tantamount to an inhuman process of degradation of, in the main, severely disadvantaged (on a global scale) people who are desperate to achieve a better and freer life. |

I strongly endorse women, children AND MEN being released from detention centres while their applications are being processed. If other countries can manage it surely Australia can. |

This country has resources to share; most people would not make the dangerous journeys they do if not desparate, and if we did make the odd 'mistake' does that make it wrong to admit desparate folk? |

I am sickened by Australia's mandatory detention policy. It offends my values. It appeals to Australians' latent fears fear of the "yellow peril" but displays lack of imagination and a complete lack of compassion for others. |

There should be a limit of say no more than one year in detention. The mainline attitude of both parties and their unwillingness to allow a conscience vote is detestable. Children in detention is an abomination. |
